Mercury Analysis

Mercury Analysis Resolution Analytics is happy to announce its latest analytical service!  We now provide analysis for total and speciated mercury emissions utilizing Ontario-Hydro, EPA Method 29, and EPA Method 101.  In addition, we are also providing sorbent trap analysis for total mercury (40CFR, App K) and speciated mercury using a combination sorbent trap/impinger sampling setup.

Under the Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR), the EPA is mandating initial certification (and annual RATA certification thereafter) for all CEM mercury monitors for coal-fired utility boiler exhausts beginning January 1, 2009.  The burden on the stack testing industry to keep up with the ruling's request for initial certification of these monitors will be tremendous.  Accordingly, cost-competitive and reliable lab support will be an important part of any testing plan.

Ontario-Hydro and EPA Method 29       

Traditional “wet-test procedure” methods for mercury emissions such as Ontario-Hydro (OHM), EPA Method 29, and EPA Method 101A require subsequent analysis of mercury by a technique called Cold-Vapor Atomic Absorbance Spectrometry (or CVAAS).   These methods have traditionally been utilized for compliance purposes. OHM and Method 29 have now been stated by the EPA to serve as reference methods for RATA test procedures under the newly issued Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR, issued on March 15, 2005).

Appendix K/EPA 30B (Sorbent Trap) Analysis

DMAIn addition to the “wet test” methods we also provide analytical services for the testing of solid sorbent medium in sorbent tubes (traps) for 40CFR75 Appendix K testing. 

Our instrumentation not only meets all EPA 30B analytical requirements, but has an increased sensitivity which allows us to analyze only a portion of the sample medium.  Utilizing only half of the sample medium, we eliminate the need for destructive sample As the nature of this analysis is destructive to the sample medium, a partial sample analysis (or sub-sampling) provides a backup should the sample need to be reanalyzed for any reason.  This non-destructive analysis can often save saves the testing firm the headache of a retest.
